Extension addresses the critical issues facing people and places through community and economic development work in leadership, workforce development, entrepreneurship, civic engagement and volunteerism, community planning, and disaster preparedness.

Consumer Horticulture

N.C. Cooperative Extension consumer horticulture programs provide outreach and education to promote non-commercial production of vegetables, flowers, lawns, ornamentals and other plants in home or community settings.

Empower individuals and families to build healthy lives and achieve optimal social and economic wellbeing.

Food Safety and Nutrition

Enhance food safety throughout the supply chain through producer and consumer-based programming aimed at preventing food safety hazards and reduce chronic disease risk and food insecurity by promoting policies, environments, and education that sustain healthy behaviors through the consumption of healthy diets, active lifestyles, access to nutritious food and the achievement and maintenance of healthy body weights.

Natural Resource and Environmental Systems

N.C. Cooperative Extension environmental and natural resource systems programs provide outreach and education to promote environmental stewardship and the responsible use and protection of the natural environment through conservation and sustainable practices in agricultural and timber production, soil preservation, water, and air quality, promoting recycling, composting, and waste disposal, and minimize wildfire risks.

Plant Production Systems

N.C. Cooperative Extension plant production systems programs provide education and outreach to crop, vegetable, fruit, ornamental horticulture, nursery, timber and fiber producers and packers and landscape professionals to enhance sustainability, improve production efficiency, protect the safety and security of our food supply, and protect our natural resources.
